Présentation

Munduk, where is it and what is it ?

Today, we’re excited to introduce the region of Munduk and the unique experiences we offer. This article is your guide on Munduk ; what type of traveler it’s best for, its vibe, and, of course, the activities and experiences available.

Munduk is located in northern Bali, about two hours from Ubud by car. It’s known for breathtaking scenery and lush vegetation ! Being a mountainous region, the climate here is cooler and more humid compared to the southern parts of the island. Munduk has an authentic, mystical atmosphere, setting it apart from busier tourist areas.

Who is Munduk For ?

We recommend Munduk for nature lovers and adventure seekers. As mentioned, the region is mountainous and known for outdoor experiences. This is a genuinely authentic place with few tourists, so don’t expect day clubs, Instagrammable cafés, or shopping boutiques. Instead, Munduk is all about local activities and products !

Les expériences que nous proposons à Munduk :

Canoe on the Twin Lakes

Explore Danau Buyan and Danau Tamblingan, two stunning lakes surrounded by lush hills. The tranquil atmosphere here is worlds away from busy tourist spots. Canoeing across these lakes immerses you in the untouched natural beauty of the Island of the Gods.

Who is it for ?

This activity is ideal for nature lovers, culture enthusiasts, and families (the canoes are family-friendly). Couples will also love this ; picture a romantic outing amid the mystical ambiance of the lakes.

Four-Waterfall Trek

This Munduk trek covers four waterfalls :

  • Munduk Waterfall
  • Melanting Waterfall
  • Laangan Waterfall
  • Red Coral Waterfall

Each waterfall is unique, with its own distinct surroundings, pools, and viewpoints. The trek usually lasts between 3 and 4 hours, including time to explore and enjoy each site. It covers about 4 to 6 kilometers.

Who is it for ?

With a moderate difficulty level, this trek is accessible to all types of travelers and offers stunning views ! It’s a fun experience to share with friends or family, with plenty of activities like cliff jumping, natural slides, pool dips, or just chilling by the waterfalls.

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan Temple

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is one of Bali’s most iconic sites, located on the shores of Lake Bratan. Dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu, the temple appears to float on the water. For the most magical experience, visit at sunrise or sunset to catch the breathtaking reflections on the lake.

Main activities include exploring the temple grounds and its shrines dedicated to Hindu and Buddhist deities, while enjoying scenic views of Lake Bratan.

Who is it for ?

Everyone ! The temple is easy to reach and requires no special physical conditions, so visitors of all ages are welcome.

It’s particularly appealing to history and culture enthusiasts, spiritual seekers, and photography lovers, as sunrise and sunset bring out the temple’s best colors.

Child Entrance: 25,000 IDR (about 1.50 euros)

Dalem Tamblingan Temple

This temple, located near Lake Tamblingan in the Munduk region and surrounded by forest, is in an isolated area that creates a unique spiritual atmosphere. Its purpose ? To honor the spirits, ancestors, and deities of the forest and lake. Explore the ruins of the sanctuary and its ancient carvings.

The temple serves as the starting point to explore the twin lakes, which can be done on foot (trekking) or by canoe.

Who is it for ?

Everyone, but especially for nature lovers, hikers, explorers, and anyone interested in spirituality and Balinese culture.

Entrance fee and hours

Free entry ! (Though donations are welcome to help maintain the site )

Hours : Open daily

The Handara Gates

Often mentioned on websites, Facebook groups, and blogs… we strongly advise against visiting this spot. It’s an overly touristy attraction, crowded with people, and you’ll have to wait 2 to 3 hours just to take a single photo. And to top it all off, it’s not even a temple it’s just the entrance to a golf course =  a total tourist trap!
